Idea for interactive visualizations $$$
« on: September 07, 2004, 04:09:47 pm »

I thought of this when I was updating my concert calendar last night, I do it manually through excel.  What I would like to see is the ability to add things to the visualization window. For example Band X is playing on monday 25th Sept. at Slim's.  And either the info is pulled from my spreadsheet or it is updated through some sort of online service.  So you know when the bands that you are listening to are coming to town.  I am sure there are other uses for visualization notifications.  The only other one i can think of at the moment, which is probably a lot more lucrative than the idea that i actually want is for a notification to come up when a new album is being released by the band that you are listening to.  Possibly with a link to purcahse it via a web based service when it comes out.  It seems like this sort of info would be helpfull to users and jriver especially with the bestbuy version coming out soon, I am sure that bestbuy would love that kind of thing.

So yeah I am trying to bribe you into doing the concert info thing for me basically, or at least enable info to be put into the visualization page.

Thanks,
Kain

Apparently my initial title didn't have enough pizazz.  Bump!

It's a fun idea.  We have a long list though.

If you like programming, you could create any type of display plugin you like using the SDK.

I like it in a conceptual sense, the implentation is another thing all together.  I am planning on taking a programing class next quarter so I guess it will have to wait till then.  Here is a question for you though.  Say someone wrote a plugin which could tell you when the artist you are listening to has a new album out, would you be against them putting some sort of referal like to Amazon or something so that they get some sort of reperation for their effort, or is that sort of thing not allowed.
