Where are my settings stored?
« on: July 13, 2004, 03:22:20 am »

I've done a search on the forum but I can't find the answer to:

where does MC 10 store my settings (lay-out, menu-bar etc.)?

It has to be somewhere in the profile, as my settings are gone since I renamed my profile.
I've been searching in this old profile but can't find anything of MC.

Thanks in advance!

In the registry: HKCU\Software\JRiver

Thanks for that.
It's there, indeed.
But how on earth is it possible that with removing my W2K-profile my MC-settings are gone?
The settings in my registry are now the settings of the newly started (clean) MC - so my old settings are overwritten.

I guess that it is because the settings are under HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
I think that Windows loads them from HKEY_USERS when the user is logged in.

I have the current HKEY_CURRENT_USER items duplicated in one of the users listed in HKEY_USERS.

If you removed a user you also deleted the relative settings.

I get it.
But I've copied my old profile, so these MC-settings, that apparantly are imported in the registry, must be somewhere in this profile too.
But I don't see them anywhere.
If I'd find them, I'd copy them to my new profile. Easy as pie.

But where can I find these settings?

Anyone else, maybe?

You didn't copy all the settings for individual applications like MC etc, just windows settings and documents.  You would have had to back up the registry to a .reg file before deleting your old profile and use this .reg to reimport the settings in your new profile.

They are gone so you'd better start setting them up again!

Read the current thread about backing up your hard drive as it sounds like this would have helped you.

Windows System Restore might do the trick, but I think that it is easier and probably safer to redefine your MC options.

OK, so i have to upgrade from Win2K Professional to Server and i really would like to keep MC10 running as before.

I've backed up the library and backed up the registry to other machines.

When i come to restore - how do i choose which registry entries to copy over?

Thanks....
