"Rename files from properties..." doesn't work
« on: September 19, 2004, 12:29:18 am »

I can't figure out what I did to trigger this bug, and so I'm sorry that I can't really describe how to reproduce it, but any help would be appreciated because I'm getting desperate!

The library command "Rename Files From Properties..." is one that I rely on most every day.  It has suddenly ceased working - it updates the filename in the database, but doesn't actually rename the file on disk, thus causing MC to "lose" the file.

Any ideas?

I'm using MC 10.0.161.

Files / directories aren't set "Read Only" are they?

(it should fail if that's the case, but...)

I don't think so... Well, actually, since you mention it, all of the directories on my system appear to have their read-only bit set (according to the properties pane in Windows Explorer), and unchecking that box appears to have no effect.  (But now I'm noticing that MC is letting me rename or move some songs but not others, and while I can't yet figure out which ones it's letting me do, the read-only bit on the directories doesn't appear to be the problem.)

In the mean time, I'm having to move the files by hand and then update the filename by hand in MC - sort of risky and a lot of work.  Again, any help would be appreciated.

Okay...so you found some directories with read only set, how about the files contained therein?

Don't forget, if you copy a bunch of files off a CD, they often end up on your hard drive as read only as well (I'm sure I've seen this a bunch of times.)

Check out the files which you are having trouble with as well the directories containing them...

Open up a command prompt and navigate to the root folder of where you keep all your mp3 files, then type the following command:

attrib -r *.* /s
