iPod Crashing MC11
« on: September 26, 2004, 02:39:55 pm »

I have a Gen2 iPod, 20gig, Firmware: v1.3.

Every time I try to read it from MC11 (v90) it crashes MC11.  I've reformatted the iPod from Explorer but that hasn't helped the situation.  This happens whether I use the "Devices and "Drives" in the tree or the "Handheld Player" in the Action Window.

HELP!

Tim,

I made many changes today which will affect this. Please get tonight's build and let me know how it turns out.

Thanks,

Steve

Still getting same results, I right click on iPod in the devices list and Core crashes.

I don't know if this is helpful info or not but iTunes appears to be updating with no problem.

Oh and my Gen2 iPod is connected by Firewire, Gen2 only supports Firewire but I wasn't sure if that was clear. :)

TimB,

I can connect my Gen2 iPod with 1.4 firmware without problems.

I right click on iPod in the devices list and Core crashes.

Does this mean you can left click on the iPod drive letter and MC displays files on iPod without problem and you only see the crash after you right click? That would be very hard to explain.

Regardless, if you want to get it to work and don't mind losing what you have on iPod, using Windows Explorer, go to your iPod drive letter and delete (or move) your iTunesDB file from the iPod_Control\iTunes folder. Run MC and then right click on your iPod.  You will not see any of the files on your iPod, even though they are there. If you have no crash, select the option to rebuild the database from iPod and you should be able to see your files again.

No. :)  It crashes regardless of what I do, I click on the drive, it crashes! :)

Right now my iPod has MP3s that iTunes has installed.  Can I use this same process?  If so I'll be happy to try it out!

Tim,

Yes, give it a shot if you don't mind possibly losing what is on the iPod.

OK, I deleted the iTunesDB file, ran MC11 (.91), right clicked on my iPod in the "Drives & Devices" item and crashed. :)

However it appears that you're creating iTunesDB when I right click as it reappears the same time, if you already know this...never mind but maybe it'll be helpful info?

Tim,

After the crash, can you email me your iTunesDB file?

Thanks,
