How to get split views?
« on: October 01, 2004, 09:46:33 am »

Matt,

I had this when it was out, but then suddenly the Ctrl+shift command doesn't work anymore.

Any idea what to do?

Please, if you could give me some help.

All I say is that you have the patience of a saint.   8)  Haven't you been reporting this problem for weeks if not months now? *pats matshif on the back*

Just move from one View Scheme to another one holding the Shift key.

In my case I get something that looks like a split view.

Running 11.093!

At least weeks, and I still have a hope, omni.

To cancel the split view, click on Burn CD in the Action Window, click on the arrow for Next, then cancel the CD burn window . . . . MC will restore to a single view.

Maybe someone knows if there's a point in uninstall re-install?

try it once. export your registry incase you still have the same probs so you can go back to it easily without the mess of redoing everything.

Could you explain the export registry thing?

I thought I should backup and restore library. Maybe I should do both?  :-\

Thanks for your time, dragyn.

Sure thing. Open up the registry (start, run, regedit) and then goto: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 11. Right-click on "Media Center 11" and choose 'Export'. This will save the .reg file to the disk and that's it.

Split views back.

I exported the registry.
I backed up library.
Uninstalled.
Reinstalled.
Restored libraray.

Split views back, but the only cover arts that remain are those inside file(s).

I have no Cover Art folder under Data folder anymore.

Import regsitry, but that just screwed up everything so I have to do the uninstall/reinstall again.

Well dragyn, at least I got the split view back. I'll look for the Cover Art folder.  :P

Matshif,

I am sorry for what happened to you with the cover art. If you do not have any backup of it, you are probably fried.

I had this long time ago, I think it was with MJ8 and it is obviously still there. MC has the bad habit of cleaning out their whole install folder at deinstallation time, so if the cover art folder points to the install folder (as the default does), a deinstall of MC wipes out your cover art folder as well.

Usually apps have a log file of all the stuff they install and a deinstallation deletes only what has been installed by the installer leaving stuff submitted by the user untouched.

So if you did not specifiy another cover art path under options you probably lost the cover art at deinstallation time.

That's why I moved the cover art directory long time ago out of the MC install folder and later went on of having only cover art stored inside the files.

Jaguu, thank you so much.  :D  :D  :D

Your reply remained me that I have an old copie of the whole MC10 structure which also include the cover art folder.

And whips after that I have copied this folder to MC11 and made a restore I have most of my cover art in place again.

Works like a charm.  :)

Can I move my cover art from a folder and instead store them "inside file(s)"?

If yes, how?
