Import only found 3 of 14 files?
« on: October 04, 2004, 01:06:07 pm »

I converted some files to aac (extension mp4) as a test.  I then told MC to import from that directory.  If imported 3 of the files only.  I went to that folder in explorer, and highlighted all 14 files, right-clicked, and selected Media Center, Import.  That didn't bring them in either.

I'm confused.  Why only 3 files?  I would expect either all or none.

Check the filename length.  There's an Apple bug with long filenames.

That would explain it.

Is there a fix for this, or do I just need to shorten the names (I'd rather not)?

Try it and see if that's the problem.  It's only a guess.

I'm not sure if there's any kind of workaround.  Maybe we could pass quick-time the short-filename instead of the long-filename.

Let us know and we'll dig further.

The 3 files that did import were the shortest of the list.  So I'm sure that's it.  The longest that imported is 58 characters.mp4, the next longest (did not import) is 61 characters.mp4.

If you guys could make this better, I would be very appreciative.

Matt,

Is it possible to try to send quicktime the short-filename (or any other workaround)?  I'm trying to get ready for the trip, and I'm trying to get MC all updated with the m4a files I've converted, but MC doesn't import them.  I either need you to work a small miracle for me, or rename hundreds of files, by hand :'(

Please tell me you can help :D

I'm seeing the same thing.  I understand the Quicktime bug and it wont play files w/ long names, but what is preventing MC(both 10 and 11) from displaying these files via the 'Drives and Devices' view?  I cant even use MC to shorten the names of these files becuase MC wont show them.
