Tracking Music's Bad Boys
EMI makes audio fingerprinting push
EMI has announced a deal with Audible Magic to begin using a technology known as audio fingerprinting on the company's albums before the end of the year. The technology (which Audio Magic has dubbed Repli-check), uniquely identifies each separate copy of a song based on almost imperceptible audio characteristics, and may eventually assist in limiting file trading and audio piracy. According to the company's website, "it takes less than 15 minutes per CD to identify each track's song title, performing artist, and album", which seems a bit unwieldy.

Funny funny. You would have to put your cd and to wait 15 minutes before be able to play it.

With all the money they spend on secutity -each
new ,100 % proff, lasting one week-it is not next week we  will buy cds at a realistic price instead of the rip of of prices of today.

And this one is good as well:

The growing and dangerous intrusion of this new technology," Jack Valenti said, threatens an entire industry's "economic vitality and future security." Mr. Valenti, the president of the Motion Picture Association of America, was testifying before the House Judiciary Committee, and he was ready for a rhetorical rumble. The new technology, he said, "is to the American film producer and the American public as the Boston Strangler is to the woman alone."

This is not about the internet or file sharing, it was in 1982, and he was talking about videocassette recorders. If Jack Valenti had his way back then (he almost did as the Sony BetaMax case went all the way to the Supreme Court) we wouldn't have VCRs today, Blockbuster wouldn't exist and 50% of Hollywoods income wouldn't exist.
