Macros for tagging
« on: October 20, 2004, 02:32:15 pm »

Hi,

I often find myself doing the same things all over again when I'm tagging files. I have my own routine which normally ends with a specific "find and replace" followed by a specific "clean file properties", then a "rename files from properties" with a specific template, followed by sending them to play, etc.

It would be useful to group those repetitive tasks in a sort of user-defined "macro" so that when selecting a batch of files, the tasks could be done in a single operation instead of having to always repeat the same procedures one after the other.

Would other people find it useful?

Thank you.

Funny you mention it, I was just thinking the same thing last night.  I would LOVE that functionality.

Yes, I would find this useful. I often have an entire album or set of albums that need all the same cleanup done -- like I had some where the name of the song included the track# which I wanted to delete. It is the same set of actions.

I've always thought that this would make my life a LOT easier. When tagging, I'm always doing the same steps. The problem is that there are a lot of steps. It's easy to forget one or two... Not to count using the different plugins which are also part of my tagging routine.

If I could create some type of macro in which I could record all the tagging steps I take, life would be a lot easier...

This does not have to be a sophisticated VB like macro language... Just some way to to record the different tagging steps I take. When tagging the next album, the macro would automatically navigate MC's menu bar to guide me step by step.

Could be called "Auto-Tagging" or maybe "Tagging Playlists" :-)

And if you drop in a few basic templates, it would make MC a lot more "newbie" friendly... (LOL!)

Michel.

Add me to the list of folks who would like to see this implemented.

Yeah, me too.

And then what would be cool is some way to save macros as an external file so that you can move them from one PC to the next, even share them with other users.
