Recommendation for DVD ripping software?
« on: December 28, 2004, 02:12:58 pm »

Hi guys,

Was wondering if anyone could give me their recommendation for DVD ripping software.

I want to copy some of my DVD collection to hard drive storage for quick playback.  I'm looking for software that can rip to DivX and other formats, and ideally also has a non-conversion rip - so it rips to the same format that a DVD disk is in (rather than converting to DivX or other file format)

Also I will want to rip audio in native format, i.e. keeping 5.1 disks in that format.

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks

I always use DVDShrink, but then I never encode to DiVX or any other format. In fact I don't encode at all, I keep it the way it is. Extra compression looks like sh... on an 8 foot screen.

Thanks Mastiff

Had a quick look at DVD Shrink - looks pretty good

So can you then play the resulting files in Media Center as you would any normal video file?  And that will include the original sound e.g. as Dolby Digital or DTS 5.1?

Also do the DVD menus work?

Sorry for all the questions - thanks for your response!
