DVD playback problems
« on: November 03, 2004, 09:07:02 am »

apologies if this has already been raised, but a searc of the forum did not produce any good answer.

MC10 (just downloaded the trial version) won't play my DVD files (either ripped on HD or from disk). It plays all other video files well (AVI, MPG, WMD).
It says that I have corrupted or wrong DVD encoder, but my other DVD playback software (PowerDVD) dworks well.

MC10 suggest that I re-install (or remove  >:() all other DVD software. I really do not want to do that...

Any suggestion?

You're not going to like this but I seriously doubt anyone's going to answer your question in any more depth.

I had the same problem with Power DVD and MC and eventually had to switch to WinDVD which worked fine for my DVDs and all of a sudden MC would work as well...

However I wouldn't get too fired up about MCs DVD playback. On my system at least it doesn't support DTS playback and for some reason MC is awfully quiet when playing DVDs, meaning I have to crank the amp on my system WAY up to enjoy movies.

WinDVD plays DTS sound and has no volume probs when I use it though so I am assuming it's an MC issue.

Good Luck,

Will, thanks a lot.
I believe I will follow your advice and forget about DVD playback from MC.
Shame 'cause it is so good for everything else.
Still worth the money, I belive.

Decoder

MC picks up the last decoder loaded on your sys..

To see what decoder you are using:

Play a dvd/ rt. ck. the screen/select audio video opt./ prop./ dvd filter listing.

MC does not give you the opt. of selecting a decoder.

So if you want to change the decoder, load software with a diff. decoder.

Then MC will pick up that decoder.

Hope this helps.

I will test when at home, but would it be possible to know what decoders  are supported by MC, instead of going by trial and error?

I tried new nVidia DVD decoder and Intervideo DVD + MP3 XPack v1.5 with no success. Media center gives me the following error:

Code: [Select]
There were problems setting up for DVD-Video playback.

* 2 out of 3 DVD-Video streams failed to render properly
   - video stream
   - subpicture stream

etc...

Does anyone knows what this mean?

ps. Now I'm using old PowerDVD SE decoder witch is based on PowerDVD 3.0, but the picture isn't that good, and audio is very quiet.
