Help with Playlists paths please
« on: October 24, 2004, 05:49:33 am »

I need to use playlists that can be copied from one HDD to another and still work. I discovered that using Notepad to remove the original hard drive designation, so that instead of saying E:\Music .. etc I said just \Music .., it works with WMP and also works with my Netgear server on my other computer and also works when transferred to my Archos AV400. The only place it doesn't work is in MediaCenter. Why not? What do I need to do, please? Hope I've made my problem clear and any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I do what you described and it works for me. On my "source" PC, I export the playlist and then re-import it on the "target" machine which has a drive mapped to the same audio disk and using the same driver letter. This way, there's no renaming of drive letters in notepad or anything like that required.

Hope that helps. You could always just use Library Server  :)

Thanks, Raym. I think what you're saying involves having the drive letter in the name. I used to do that when I was just syncing 2 computers. I kept all my audio file on drive E on both machines. The problem is I have just bought an Archos AV480 and I don't think I can treat that the same way because of the firmware setup. Am I right then that MediaCenter doesn't follow the normal relative paths convention? Why wouldn't it - it seems it should be very easy to program?

Still hoping for an answer to my problem. If I can't solve it, looks like I'm going to have to give up on Media Center after 2 years. Still don't understand why it can't follow the normal convention for playlist paths.
