Konfabulator was recently released for windows!

This is a cool little app that runs a whole bunch of 'widgets' for various information.

There are some available that can control itunes.  Does anyone have time or interest to make one for Media center?

The look of some of the konfabulator widgets is very cool.  They combine a semi-transparency with an interesting lighting effect that you might expect to see only on OSX.  I have the weather widget sitting on my desktop, not because I really need to know the current temperature all the time, but because it looks so great.  I wish all Windows apps could look this good.  Perhaps with Longhorn...

Dream on if you think Longhorn is going to be anything like that unless they make massive changes to the UI and underlying graphics layer.

Have you looked at dotWidget?
"Same" as Konfabulator, but free/open.

Another app they have is icefire, pretty cool little app in itself.

Thanks.   :)
dotWidget looks pretty good, but I couldn't get it to work.  All sorts of errors...   I guess that's why it's still in beta.

Re Longhorn,
If it's possible to make an app look like that in XP, I don't see why we wouldn't see more of it in Longhorn.  Transparency is already enabled in XP, and here's a Longhorn screenshot with a glossy look:

It seems to me, the issues are, will MS make it relatively easy for developers to use fancier graphics, and will developers opt to use features that aren't compatible with pre-XP or pre-Longhorn systems.

I'm looking forward to lots of eye-candy in a glossy and translucent Windows world.  I don't mind dreaming.  :)

Thanks.

I'd try to do it myself, but I don't have the time right now or for the near future.
