CDDB and artwork problems...
« on: October 26, 2002, 11:23:36 pm »

I'm having several problems related to CDDB.

First: I installed MJ first on my notebook and then later on my server. On my notebook when I first went to use CDDB it prompted me to register. On the server, it simply comes up with an unable to connect message. When I try to set registration info in Settings, the dialog box never comes up.

Second: I was able to register for CDDB just fine on the notebook but anytime it tries to connect I get a "Malformed command sent from server to client" message. Note: I'm accessing the net from behind a LinkSys firewall--do I need to do any port triggering, maybe?

Note: YADB works fine. Also, I found another thread about troubleshooting CDDB. It suggested trying a URL in IE to see if connectivity works and if anything comes back from CDDB. In other words, isolate the problem to MJ. I did this and the data came back from CDDB just fine.

Third: I've tried getting art for a bunch of songs--all very popular stuff that you'd think would come up. Some from CDs, others from MP3's. Not a single hit, not even incorrect ones. Is this maybe another firewall issue?

I know that's a lot of questions. But if anyone has suggestions, I'm greatly appreciative. MJ kicks butt over every other media player! The only thing I miss from Windows Media 9 is the instant album info (from AMG) in the "Now Playing" window.

Thanks in advance for helping!

Hi,

- CDDB : it has been told, somewhere in another thread, that MJ doesn't support CDDB any longer, so I think you should forget about CDDB and keep going with YADB.

- Artworks : you're right, it often happens - I left this way of updating for a long time and now use CDCovers (http://www.cdcovers.cc/covers.php) to retrieve the artworks.

Yves.

I just started reading the MJ9 beta threads and found a lot of threads regarding regarding that. Thanks for the confirmation and link for album art!

About Cover Art, I Always Do A Local Search First, Then Do A Internet Search.

Not that will improve hits, but it is Much faster.
