I've been ripping CD's to my hard drive without difficulty for months. 
Today while ripping, I got the following message:
  "The output directory could not be created for one or more files.
     Please check the output directory in the ripping options."
This is the same directory I've use all along without a problem.
I even changed the diectory to one on a different partiition in my system...
it didn't help.
What has gone wrong?

If your full directory path for ripping includes the artist or album (as many do), see if there are unusual characters in that field.  I recently ran into exactly this error when I was ripping an album whose name included the string "..." (3 dots in a row).  Replacing the dots with something else allowed it to work.  I'm not sure why MC or Windows would care, but one of them does.

Had the same prob with Sinead O'Connor - So Far...The Best of Sinead O'Connor. Didn't know about the ... issue and resolved it by ripping with Windows Media! Phah he says spitting on the ground! 

Some how it only effects ripping - directory ripped with the dots plays fine... ? ?

I can't replicate the problem here using MC 10.0.173 and 11.0.168. I tried three dots in the track, artist, album name fields (using artist/album for directory path). I tried the mp3 and wma encoders. Please give a specific example of the directory path you are using (tools/options/file location) along with the exact track name, artist and album name for the CD you are ripping. Also, which encoder settings you're using. Post your system info here as well (from the MC Help/System info option).  Sherm123: does it happen on all CD's now or just a particular one?
