Because the last version of MC didn't actually rebuild the database from the files (ouch!!), I had to initialize and re-synch tonight.

MC said it would take about 1 1/2 hours.  It actually took a little over an hour.  The time remaining showed about 30 minutes left or so when it finished, but It did transfer all the songs.  Acording to MC all the files are on the iPod.  Unfortunately, it does not take up nearly as much space as it should.  MC says my database is about 35 gb, and I still have over 15gb left on my 40gb iPod.  I checked this with both iTunes, and Windows Explorer.  It's correct.  All the songs take up half the space?!?!?!

How can this be.  I do NOT have it set to convert files to another type.  they are all m4a files, set at 128 bits, more or less.

Please help.  I'm begging the internet woman to NOT delete my music files so she can wipe the computer.

I need to get this done soon.

Thanks.

PS  Using v .174

Not all the songs are actually on the iPod is one possibility.

When MC reports songs on the iPod, it is reporting what is written in the iPod database. When MC is reporting available space it is reporting physical space on the drive and this number is almost certainly correct whereas the iPod database may be incorrect for a variety of reasons.

What you are trying to do is not supported or tested and is a very rare thing to need to do.  I apologize if it is not working out. I have given you the best advice I can as to how it could work, but beyond that, I cannot break away to implement this feature at this time.

Sorry.

Yep, that's why, not all the songs are making it on the iPod.  Why?  I don't know.

I´m not sure what you mean by it´s not an implemented feature.  I have all my music on the hard drive, and am trying to use MC to put it on the iPod.  What am I doing differently than everyone else does?  I used MC to initialize the iPod before synching with .174.

It worked in the old version of MC, .168 I think, but that version didn't update the playlists right.  I also note that this version didn't update the playlists right either.

I guess I'll go back to the old version and do it again.  I just thought you would like to know that the new version isn't putting all the songs on the iPod.

If all the files are on the PC and you start with a clean library and you intialize the iPod and then sync, all should work.  The 'not implemented' stuff refers to using an existing library and then reimporting files into it and then copying them back out to iPod which is atypical.  Sorry for the difficulties in a strange land.

Thanks for the update.  I did originally initialize with MC, and re-snych, but it didn't work very right.

This morning, I reset my iPod with the apple software, and re-snyched again with MC, and it worked this time.  I'm not sure what the problem was last night, but I'm all back up and running again.

Thanks for your help, have a great day.
