Need Soundcard Recomendation
« on: January 07, 2005, 11:11:20 pm »

I have never been able to record streaming internet radio.  I am running MC 10.0 and have also had the same trouble with earlier versions of MC.

I have an old Sound Blaster PCI128 sound card.  I believe that there is some incompatibility between MC and my sound card.  I have tried all fixes including newest driver, and tweaking all the appropriate settings within MC and in Windows.  I am running W2000  Service pack3

I have decided that I will buy a new sound card.  If you are able to record streaming internet radio with MC10 please tell me what specific sound card you are using and what operating syystem.

Thanks in advance for your reply

Dunno about MC, but......
My Creative Live 5.1 came with a recording program, can't remember the name as it isn't installed anymore. Anyway, you can use this to save radio as wav, then convert it to MP3 later.
I would warn you though that there is almost no benefit to doing this. I found that even for recordings which i haven't been able to find anywhere else on the planet, i still don't listen to them as the quality just isn't high enough to listen to more than once. Oh, and it's illegal too. :) My experiments found it just wasn't worth it (IMHO), but each to their own i suppose.
cheers

I just posted a reply here regarding your issue:

If you want to save some money, see if this works before you upgrade your sound card.

After reading the recomended posts I came to the conclusion that I needed a new cound card.  Bought a souncblaster live 5.1  about $35.  And that resolved the issue.  Seems the old soundblaster PCI128 just did not have ther right support in W2000 from a driver standpoint.  And yes I was using the latest driver available.

Now I can record internet radio just as Mecia Center says you should be able to.  and everything else works too.
