Renamed: Search bug?
« on: October 24, 2002, 07:40:04 am »

OK, maybe I'm missing something obvious as MJ is so loaded with features.

I'm looking for a way to say "I want to copy all songs from albums that I have 5 or more tracks for to my portable device", in this case an iPod but I don't think this is an iPod specific question.

I've tried AlbumView but it doesn't seem to have the "move to device" piece.

If you have track numbers, this search will give you the files:

tracknumber=>4 ~a

I do have track numbers but that will only give me individual songs with track numbers higher than 4, right?

I'm looking for track numbers 1-4 based on if there are more than that number total in the album.

~a means "get full albums" for the matches, so it should do exactly what you want.

Let us know...

hmm, I tried that. It returned 150 songs total. I know I have WAY more albums than that with more than 4 tracks.

I got nothing returned.  The rule displayed fine in the Search and Summary fields (ie:

Track Number: > 4
Special: get full albums

but nothing displayed and when I right clicked and hit Play in the Search field it went to my CD drive.  Worked fine without the ~a but when I add the "get full albums" piece the listing window goes blank.

Strange.

Couple more clues...

I tried name=love and ~a and got 1 album match but with R&R tastes and almost 6000 tracks that's clearly not correct.

Also MJ8 has been crashing bigtime during and after when I use these modifiers.

The concept is awesome and I'm dying to successfully try out "tracknumber=>4 ~a ~s=20000"

More info...

...above experiences are on my desktop w/98SE and MJ8 388.

On my XP machine (config below) it still doesn't work but I do get results.   The Tracknumber=>4 works but when I add the ~a modifier I get those albums and then others that don't qualify.  If I use media server to go over to the desktop machine I get the same results as before.
