I have a copy of MediaCenter 9.1.319 (which I purchased) and am unable to read/tag ape files that are version 3.99.  The problem appears to be that the ape plugin for MC is outdated and can only handle older ape formats.  Unfortunately, new updates of the ape encoder/input plugins do not appear to be available from the website (my current version of the encoder is 2.0.35).

I was able to manually upgrade the input plugin to handle ape3.99 files by replace the in_ape.dll file with a current one (generated for winamp by the 'Monkey's Audio' program from www.monkeysaudio.com).  And, for playback purposes, this appears to work well.  However, I get an error when trying to update tags on ape3.99 files (presumably because the MC encoder plugin is still not current).  The error I get when trying to save tags is: "Failed to update the following files:"

Please advise on how to make MC 9.X deal with ape files that are version 3.99.
