OT - Good mp3 player SW for Pocket PC?
« on: January 13, 2005, 10:11:45 pm »

I'm looking for a preferably free mp3 player for a Pocket PC, one that has good tag support like MC, i.e., will let me pick albums or artists to play based on the tags, and that does not require me to create a playlist before playing anything (i.e., I can just pick an album to play, it will play the album.

Thanks

Stupid question -- can't you do this with the built-in WMP?

I don't think so, it looks like the WMP only works via playlists, i.e., you can pick a playlist to play (it's much more primitive than the desktop WMP).  I don't want to have to go through the extra step of defining albums as playlists.

I have a Dell Axim X30. The lastest software gives you WMP10, which gives you a decent library funcion that allows you to play by Artist or Album, might do Genre too, I've never used it.

I downloaded somthing really good last night called Pocket
Music Player Bundle from www.pocketmind.com . It has tag support so you can edit stuff on the fly. The trial version lasts 15 days.

Microsoft has said WMP10 won't be made available for download, so if you don't have Windows Mobile 2003se you're SOL.   I'm sure some enterprising person will copy out the .exe (WMP9 is only ~200K and see if it works on WM2003, and if so we may see it floating around on the net.

Nolonemo,

select options from the left
then playlist organizer from the menu
seelect the media catalog tab and thsi should display all the media oin your PDA

you have to expand the folders to get right to the song you want to edit then click on the third icon from the left (a sort of screen with a screwdriver ) to bring up the tag info.
