Help recreating my library...
« on: January 31, 2005, 06:51:48 pm »

I asked MC to import some files.  I forgot there was an option to have it synch with the files (I still don't know what this is supposed to do), but it renamed most of my files (before it crashed) from the filenames, which I had to shorten to get the files on the iPod.

Now many of my song names are truncated.  I would like to get the full song names back.  I have a backup of the library of before this happened, but I have made about 1000 rating changes since that backup, and I don't want to have to re-rate (AGAIN!!)

Is there any way to mix the 2 libraries.  I want the cong names from one, and the ratings from another.

Any ideas?  I really don't want to do it by hand.

Thanks

One of the .jmd files is called field(rating) - you MIGHT be able to replace the backed up version with your current one.  I'd make very sure the current library is backed up before doing anything, though!

Good luck!

I've just tried this experiment:-
Backed up the library twice (Backup1 & Backup2)
Made some ratings changes
Backed up the library (Backup3)
Restored from Backup1 - OK
Deleted field(rating).jmd in Backup2 and replaced it with field(rating).jmd from Backup3
Restored from Backup2 - OK!!

BUT, I made no changes other than the ratings.  I've no idea whether there are other files that might be inconsistent in your case!!

Thanks Ian.

I was having a bad night.  I thought about it last night, and realized that MC made a backup before changing anything.  I restored that library and all is fine now.

Thanks again!!
