First second of songs missing when I burn CD
« on: October 20, 2002, 06:04:08 am »

I am using MJ Plus 7.2.272 with my NT 4.0 machine. When I played my newly created CD that I burned from a playlist I noticed that approx the first second of each song was missing so that each song didn't start from the very beginng.  My settings are:

Write Speed - Max ( in this case 2x... ugh  )
Priority - Normal
Cache Size - Auto
Burn Proof - ON
CD capacity - 80 min
Decode MP3 directly to CD

I'm not sure what is the culprit is here...

Any Suggestions?

Thanks

Well MJ 7.2.272 was working just fine for me.. but I guess I will try the upgrade.

I was running ASPI layer version 4.6 and on your advice installed 4.71 and now the machine just freezes when I try to burn... so will have to back it off...

The burning FAQ's don't really address this problem as I was not encountering any MJ errors.. it was simply the very beginning of each song was ommited.

Nevertheless I went out and got a faster writer.. but who knows if this is truly the problem..  I'll let you know.

I do not think a slow 'burner' can be the problem

maybe not but it will not take 1 hour+ to burn a cd

Plus there have been some burner driver fixes in mj8

While your at it, upgrade to WinXP, use premium gas (93+), and clean your windows. Then maybe it will work..

No, really...you shouldn't have to keep upgrading because something that was meant to work isn't.

Did it ever work before? What about your drivers? You haven't been using it as a cup holder have you? Good luck. :P

Ok Still at the 7.2.272 level ( guess I must be saving that as a last resort? ) and tried the ASPI 4.71 update with the machine just freezing big time when I tried to burn.. backed off to ASPI 4.60

Ok so NOW.. replaced my old SCSI 2X burner ( with which I have burned many a CD w/MJ ) with an APTAPI IDE NEC NR-7800A - 16X.  MJ detects the new burner correctly. The new burner works fine with NTI and CD Extreme.. But when I try to burn a CD with with MJ it goes very fast, says it completed fine and the resulting worthless disc has nothing but 'white noise' on it.
I've looked throught he forum to see if there were any discussions on this particular burner but found none.

So now what?.. Should I change the hood ornament on my car??

This sounds like a problem I used to have.  However the problem was not with MJ or the computer.  I only saw the first seconds not play when I played the burned CD in my Jensen car stereo or on my Apex DVD player.  Anyway the problem turned out to be the tags in the mp3 files.  Those players could not tolerate cover art in the file or mp3s that had been made using realjukebox.  I had to re-record them using MJ and not store cover art in the tags.  Those mp3 files when burned on a CD-R played everywhere.

I hope this helps.
