Failed to find any CD-R/W devices
« on: October 21, 2002, 05:58:24 am »

Media Jukebox is not recognizing my DVD/CD-R/W device on my laptop.  When I click on the "Compact Disc (E:)" under the "CD, DVD, & Handheld" line, I get the error message in the subject line.

E Drive is selected under device settings on Options.

Any suggestions?  This otherwise nifty program won't be much good if it won't find my CD-R/W.

Thanks

If you are on Windows NT/2000/XP, try checking "use internal aspi" on the cd writer settings options dialog. You have to restart MJ for this to take effect.
Otherwise (or in addition), try checking "use generic driver" on the same dialog.
If that doesn't work, print your system info here (available on the MJ help menu). Also list your cdr model and check out the FAQ and "cd burning tips" available under the Help menu at the top of this web page.

I am using XP and MJ ver 8.0.329.
Under MJ Options, CD Writer Settings, there is no indication of a choice relative to "use internal aspi" or "use generic driver".  There is, however, a button to detect the CD Writer, and when I do that, I get the following message:
"It has been determined that there is a version mismatch in the ASPI software on your system.  Some CD ripping and burning capabilities may be limited due to this.  Would you like to have ASPI automatically downloaded and installed?"
I have done this, rebooted as asked, but the same thing occurs again when I try to select the CD or to detect the CD again as above.

Thanks for your help.

8.0.329?

Very old....

Upgrade to build 388, then u'll have the internal ASPI option. It will take care of alot of other problems u may have too.

Before you do that though, reinstall Adaptec ASPI. Make sure u close everything (especially MJ) before installing it. Your version numbers don't match, which is why I suggest it.

Thanks for help.  I've updated to 388, loadest the latest from Adaptec, and it recognizes my DVD/CD-R, but, now (!) the CDDB look-up doesn't work.

I'm registered at CDDB, the on-line lookup is enabled, MJ has permission to go to the internet from my firewall,
and I'm not sure why it is not going out to get the info.

Sorry to be such a newbie.

Thanks.

You need to be a grandfather to use CDDB. I've used MJ since v7.2, so I'm "grandfathered" w/ CDDB thru MJ. All depends when u started using it. YADB works well (it's your only choice), try it.

I was registered with CDDB from some time back using other players; I updated by registration.  The odd thing was it did work before I updated to build 388.  Hmm.

The YADB works, though.

Thanks.

Yes, but what counts is when you started using MJ (and THEN if your registered with CDDB).
