Moving Setup To New PC
« on: February 18, 2005, 10:52:59 am »

Currently have MC setup on drive d: with music on same drive.  New setup will have MC installed on drive d: with all media files on drive e:.  How will I need to make the current database work with the files in the new location?

1. Restore an MC library backup from the old setup in the new setup. Your files will show a "red x" icon since MC cannot find them. Don't mind about that.

2. Select all files

3. Use the Find and Replace tool for changing the filename paths:

Tools > Library Tools > Find and Replace... > tick only Filename (path), Find What: D:\, Replace: E:\.

If anyone else tries this it's good to test it first with a few test files. I forgot to mention that earlier.

Ha Ha!  Just read that last post after setting MC to work on around 5 and a half thousand files!!!  Ah well - I'm delighted that I found out how to do it, cause I thought I was going to lose all my Library date information by re-importing all the files.  Thanks Alex
