Newbie Questions
« on: March 03, 2005, 01:46:39 pm »

I am trying to configure media center 10 to my liking and have the following questions:

1. No matter what i pick under tools/options/startup the program won't startup to anything except the j.river start webpage, I would like to have it start up on the audio page displaying with all my albums covers, how can i do this?

2. I would really like to be able to see scrolling lyrics for the tracks that i am playing, what is the best way to get lyrics into mc10?, i notice that a lot of the track info plugins have areas for lyrics but I am never seeing any.

3. I don't fully understand edit view scheme stuff but whenever i click on this i am not offered any options, what is going on here?

4. on my audio page, the one that is displaying my album thumbnails, is it possiable to have a visualization on the screen as well?, i would much prefer that over the pulldown menus that are showing genre and album info.

Thanks Very Much

This is based on MC 11 so not sure if you can do some of these things with 10.  MC 11 is very stable and you should give it a try.

1)If you click tools --> options --> start up --> location

2)No scrolling lyrics but try some of the track info plugins people have submitted.

3)Not sure of the question but if you right click on whatever view you are currently in, you will see an option to cusotmize current view.

4)MC11 provides for split views so you definitely can have the media library album view on top and the playing now view on the bottom which provides track info as well as visualizations.

I would like to add that you should check MC Help. It has good answers to many questions.

It's possible to put MC's display in the windowed mode and relocate & resize it. I posted these examples a few months ago:

... I really like that double clicking on an image or movie will send it to full screen view, and double clicking again will send you back to the library (not playing now). that's cool and useful for tagging images, but:

the way windowed view works feels really annoying. eg: I click windowed view and media center auto minimizes, so i click on it in the task bar but nothing happens. I have to physically close the windowed view to get media center back. that just feels wrong.

it also makes image tagging impossible. It would be really useful to have the window open over the library while clicking on images so that i could see them big while tagging them.
(i know that shift clicking "windowed view" achieves this, but it feels like hidden functionality.) ...

By adjusting options and windows in MC 10 you can get e.g. these views (and prevent MC from changing to minimized state):

In MC 11 you can also use the Split View and get a floating MC Display, Playing Now and Media Library visible at the same time.

Thanks for the replies guys, however for the most i have tried everything you have said.

1. I believe the startup location not staying set is a bug in mc10, it just plain doesn't work.

2.i have tried all the track info plugins, they all come up and show all the info, most have areas for lyics but i never get any scrolling lyrics, still don't understand it.

3.In reference to the view scheme buttom, i think it adjusts how you have columns and certain icons and stuff in the library, not that important to me.

4. So apparently i can float a visualization screen on my audio page in mc11 but can i do it in mc10, i will try it later. If i can float a visual screen on my audio page will it stay in it's position when i close and open the whole program?

I have one more question, lol

When i am on my audio page with all my album cover art displayed and when i right click on one to play it is there a way to have it jump to the playing now page automatically, as opposed to right clicking a album cover, hitting play and the having to click on the playing now page on the left hand menu.

To the last question check options>general>jump on play, then select the action.

You really should spend some time reading the Help section. Most of your questions are covered there.

The "damaged layers" visualization scrolls lyrics.
