How do you group music types??
« on: October 21, 2002, 10:12:59 am »

O.k., now that I have just about finished ripping all of my c.d.'s (to .ape) and they are all sitting there in the library, how should I keep the different types away from each other? (for random playback but only certain type and also for visually searching thru the lib)
Do I make another lib for each type such as classical, rock, pop, etc?? (and then I have to switch between libs for different types of music.)
Or should I create playlists and only that type of music in each list, but still all in the one main library??
How is it done on your computer??
Thanks, Glen

Glen,

MJ is a fantastic tool to organize yours tracks. To do what you want you need only to set 'genre' tag for each track (but you can do it selecting a lot of tracks in the same time). Then you can use one of the existing view scheme or create yours based on genre. Read about view scheme in the help (particularly about the "Search Modifiers", it is the key to use fully the powerful of MJ.

Thanks for the answer.
Somehow I thought that someone would mention genre tags. I do not seem to have any data in that position for my ripped discs. Should that info come down from cddb/yadb or do I have to insert it myself??

Thanks, Glen

cddb/freedb/yadb may deliver this information... but it is often empty or wrong (it is subjective though). In this case you have to set by yourself. An easy way to do:

first you need to have 'artist info' button in the menu bar, if not add it using customize.

select an audio track and click on artist info button
-> you go to AMG web site for this artist where you will find all needed informations.

Remember: you can set genre (or any other tag information) for several tracks in the same time.
