MC11 lockups - am I alone?
« on: March 03, 2005, 01:25:58 pm »

I don't know whether it's my PC or what, but MC11 regularly locks up for me - in fact, 9 times out of 10, if I go into the "drives and devices" bit of MC11, it just gets totally stuck on "analysing devices".

Actually, I don't even need to go into the "drives and devices" bit - whenever I plug some devices into the PC, it causes MC to do the same thing...

Very occasionally, I can actually get into that bit, but usually only after I've killed of MC and restarted it.

When it gets stuck, it uses up loads of CPU too :-(

I don't have this problem, but you might want to try a fresh install:

1) back up your library
2) uninstall mc (complete uninstall)
3) install the latest beta version
4) restore your library

It's worth a shot ;D ;D ;D

The only thing I can share with you is that MC on occasion (more often than any other software I've used) tends to conflict with a device and/or device driver.

First uninstall and re-install MC (back-up library!)
The obvious next thing to do is check for a virus.
Then, if clean, start looking for superfluous or useless devices being loaded at startup, and killing one by one until your problem clears up.

This may provide you with an answer, may not. Life's funny that way.

Good luck.

Yeah, I've got lots of devices that MC shows an interest in - for instance, my PocketPC-based phone. It detected that and asked me if I wanted to use it as a handheld player, so I said no, because there doesn't appear to be any way to configure it properly...

So I'm transferring stuff onto its memory card using a card reader.

It works eventually, but only after I've killed and restarted MC a couple of times.

The only plugins that are running are the three standard server plugins (though actually the TiVo server isn't started)

MC isn't freezing as such - the hourglass for "analysing devices" is still animated, but I've left it for hours before when this happens. On the occasions it does work, the "analysing devices" window is only onscreen for a little while.
