MC versions co-exist?
« on: March 03, 2005, 05:45:15 am »

Hi There

As a totally new, just registered user of Media Centre 10, I have a couple of simple questions (they'll get harder as I get more familiar with the product).

1. Is it possible for versions 10 and 11 to co-exist on the same machine?

2. Is the forum accessible through a Newsreader, rather than the web, and if so what is the server address?

Thanks

Steve

1. How? When I installed MC 11, MJ8 would no longer work. It would be ideal to have both.

Unfortunately having MJ8 and MC11 installed at the same time leads to Windows registry problems. They seem to share common things in the registry. A dual-boot system could be a solution.

There were changes in MC10 and MC11 to allow them to be installed at the same time. I noticed that they still used some plugins from the wrong program folders, but that didn't cause serious problems. However, after evaluating MC11 long enough I decided to uninstall MC10 from my main MC computer a couple of months ago.

MC11 is good enough for me. Newbies can have some problems because the help is not updated yet and sometimes changes can bring up new unexpected bugs. When using MC11 it's good to have up-to-date backups (as always in my opinion) and it's also good to be prepared to install an older build back if needed.
