I am totally lost, please help!
« on: March 20, 2005, 02:54:51 pm »

I just don't understand the cover art stuff. I just upgraded from mc11 build 205 to build 219. I uninstalled 205 first and left the library along, i then installed build 219 and brought my albums up in it.

About 80% of my albums had cover art, but now i am missing about 20%, isn't album art considered part of the database?, when i uninstalled build 205 it also uninstalled the cover art folder that had all my cover art in it.

I looked at the tag info on the 80% that had cover art and each album image is folder.jpg, how is this file created and where is it on my computer, is it part of the song tag and how does it relate to the album art overall?

I figured that i want all my cover art in folder.jpg form so next time i upgrade and delete the data cover art folder the program should keep all cover art because they will all be folder.jpg, is this right? So i went out and got the move art to folder.jpg plugin and ran it. I put all my files in playing now and hit the auto batch button, it went and did its thing and i thought i was set, i went and looked at the albums that were using the cover art from the cover art folder and they still do that instead of now having folder.jpg associated to them, what is going on, i just don't get it.

I had the following set in the move cover art to folder.jpg plugin:

save art in media folder as folder.jpg, i had this checked

over write any cover art in the media folder with folder.jpg, i had this unchecked

change the image path in media center to any found fodler.jpg in media path, unchecked

only if it is external art, and in that case it points to the media file.

the art is not saved in the database

if you are also talking about my folder.jpg plug-in, you need to address that in the 3rd party forum.

However the plug-in does not change the path unless

[X] Change The Image Path In Media Center To Any Found "folder.jpg" In The Media Path

Is checked

And i confermed that by looking at the code just now.

I use

options->general->importing and tagging->save cover art inside tags when possible

and it works great for me.  The cover art seems to be stored as a tag inside the actual music file.  So whenever I must reimport a file, the cover art is automagically there.

Since others use other means for cover art, is there a down side to my madness?

1. if it is a mp3 the whole file will be re-written
2. it makes the media file bigger
3. not all media files save tags inside the file

Is there any problems with the mp3 being rewritten or made larger? I am only dealing with mp3 files so i dont have to worry about the files not being able to save the cover art.

I am still lost in regards to my initial question, let me try again:

80% of my albums have cover art attached to them as folder.jpg, this has been done automatically by the program.

20% of my albums were missing cover art so i went out to amazon and walmart and got the art, stored it in the data/cover art folder and linked it to my albums that were missing their art.

My question is how do i get the 20% of my albums that refer to the cover art folder for their artwork to be like the other 80% that has their artwork attached to the file in the form of folder.jpg?

Thanks
