Customize View Settings and Presets
« on: March 22, 2005, 09:14:48 pm »

My "Customize View" settings and (more importantly) Presets keep getting hosed.  It seems to be as I install the new builds.  I understand that with the changes in there (with the new expressions) they were erased once, but it's happening repeatedly...

What's going on?  Is it me, or is it everyone?  If it is everyone, when will it stop (because I've already spent 6-8 hours fixing all my view schemes and would REALLY rather not have this happen again)?

...and...

This shouldn't keep happening.  Can you provide a step-by-step to reproduce it? (after a library backup)

Thanks.

I decided this would be better in a separate thread, since Matt's reply seemed to indicate that it is just me.

I'm not entirely sure of the procedure to reproduce.  The way it seemed to happen most recently is:

  • I spent many hours setting up my "Customize View" settings (and configuring presets) because they got hosed with a recent update.
  • I went to sleep.
  • I went to work.
  • I came home and opened MC.
  • I went to finish up setting up the Customize View settings (I had left the Music View Schemes - the biggest ones thank god - to do today).
  • All my presets were gone (though the actual settings seem to have stuck this time -- just the presets are gone).
  • I screamed an unhappy "Argh".

I will do some experimenting tonight if I have time to try to figure out what's causing it, however, I have some questions that could help...

1.  Where does MC save this information?
2.  If it is in the library, where specifically is it (which files)?
3.  If it is in the registry, is it in HKCU or HKLM?

I ask because I have multiple logins on this machine, and another separate machine, and I would like the Customize View settings (and presets) all to match.  I don't use the Library Server feature (as was discussed in another thread)...

I'm a little confused because I just upgraded the secondary machine up to .220 and imported my library  to it's local store, imported all the registry settings from HKCU and HKLM (under the JRiver key), and the presets still aren't available on the secondary machine.  I'm pretty sure that back when all the Customize View settings were on a user-by-user basis (in HKCU) it was very easy to sync all this information.  If the settings are stored in some weird location (such as in c:\program files\ somewhere or in some other key in the registry) that would explain the settings not showing up on the other machine's install ...

However, I suspect that it's in the Library somewhere and my scripts that share the library are somehow not copying those files over...

But where......?
