MC 11: Mixing songs (like a DJ)
« on: April 28, 2005, 02:05:07 pm »

Sometimes I would like to mix one song with the next, where the next song starts at a certain point, let's say 45 seconds.
I know I can change the way two song fade in and fade out can be defined. Also an alternative way to switch tracks can be defined. This can be activated by pressing ALT-M.
I was thinking of using 2 zones on 1 sound card, but I can not cross fade over the 2 zones ...

Maybe somebody knows a nice trick.

Certainly it would be nice to be able to define in and out points for a song, and have them stored in the library.

If you are rearranging songs that came off a mix CD, they will often have bits of the next or previous songs in the mix, it would be good to be able to skip these.

Throw in a playlist and repeat and you can loop as many times as you want :) Not sure if this is like a A-B loop but it's been asked many times here for people to learn music.

What would be the easiest way to create start & end points ?

you press shorcut keys to keep the start and same with end positions ?

How do you change them ?

What kind of interface should it have.

Here's is a shot at how this could work.
For every song is should be possible to define a alternate begin (seconds after start) and an alternate end (seconds before end). It is just a tag per song.
In Playing Now it should be possible to indicate (preferably per song or overall) that it has to use alternate begin and/or endings.
Playing Now should switch tracks as defined only an a later (or earlier) point in the song.

I would also like to see MC have some sort of 'beat matching' functionality.  MC can analyze beats/minute, hopefully it can use that info to match up beats from one song to the next, and work as a basic (or advanced) DJ system.  I'd like to be able to play a playlist of techno (or similar) and have it seamlessly flow from one track to the next.

I remember a few other posts where others have requested this as well.  I realize not for v11, but maybe on the 'to do list' for v12?

Are you aware of any other software that can seamlessly match techno ?

MC already has an internal engine for sample accurate seeking and a system for memorizing playback ranges. They are used with CUE sheets and big CD image files. I suppose those functions could be used if this start & end point feature is ever going to be implemented in a future MC version.

Several professional DJ programs have beat matching functions. Some of them have intellectual systems for adjusting tempo on track changes.

OK. No work around in MC 11.
Maybe something for future releases.
Now it can be solved with two PC's or laptops or 1 PC/Laptop with 2 sound cards.

I will close this thread.

Thanks
