problems burning
« on: September 02, 2002, 05:50:47 pm »

I'm sure this topic has been talked about a few times, however, I couldn't find one truly specific to my problems.  I was burning a CD, and in the third track, the disc popped out, and it showed that there was an error burning.  I tried to go back into burning mode, and every single time I try to burn, I get the same message.

MEDIA JUKEBOX caused a general protection fault

I have re-installed media jukebox, and the problem still persists, I have downloaded the newest version again, and the problem still persists, this is all while turning the computer off/on multiple times, to restart everything, and still no luck.

Though, take in consideration of my recent technical problems, when I say that I feel that media jukebox has the worst technical support ever.  Sorry, may be biting the hand that's feeding me, but putting this in a forum where users help users isn't a good idea, especially when we're all in here, because we all need help

Could you, at least, post here your System Info (MJ > Help > Sytem Info > Copy & Paste here) - Could help users to give you an answer !

Hello jus06,

It was a holiday weekend when you asked your question so the response may be a little slower than usual. It's not just users responding in this forum (although they're usually much more helpful and experienced than the "help desk" personnel at other companies), it's developers and even the company CEO. I'm the guy that wrote the CD burning stuff so maybe I can help you out. I'd recommend this sequence to narrow down the source of the problem.

1. First, post your system info here as Fastyves suggested, and tell us whether this is an audio mode or data mode burn you are attempting. Also let us know if you can burn successfully with other software.
2. try queuing up one data mode file, set your burner speed to 2X and check the "test mode" option and see if you get any errors. If not, try it again with "test mode" unchecked.
3. if that fails, try changing the setting of the "use generic driver" checkbox in cd writer settings.
4. if that fails, try a different blank disk

Please let us know what the results are.

Thanks.

> media jukebox has the worst technical support ever

That's quite a shot.  What do you base that on?

Next time you think about saying something like that, you might be better off not to.  It doesn't help you or the company you're dealing with.

System info can be copied from MJ Help and pasted here.

BTW, some of the help you'll get from "users" is more detailed and paitent than some of the help from the company.  There are a lot of smart people out there.

Well, I will admit, I was biting the hand that feeds me, however, first off, I got the problem solved, but then arrived to a newer problem.  As it was, every time I went to burn a folder, it wa showing that a song was playing, even though it wasn't, so I went ahead, added a new file then started playing it, then deleted it, so it showed that nothing was playing, then it allowed me to burn.

Then, my newer problem is, it will only burn at 2x, which isn't a big enough of a deal for me to try playing with it.

In reply to my shot at tech support, I searched this website, and google for technical support and this forum is the only thing that would show up.  In my opinion, a forum page isn't the best, but then after I cooled off from the battle with my cpu, it occured to me that this is probably the most cost effecient way to handle such a broad group of users.

I came to media jukebox because I had bought a burner years ago, and the software key wouldn't work, so I couldn't use the burner, and I let that go.  Now storing both music and files on disk is more of an importance to me, I did a search for a program that would allow me to use my burner w/o the origional program on techtv.com and found this.

This program has worked great for me so far, with a few smal quircks, which are expected from any program, I do think this is a great product, and I use it with every cpu in the house, however it was just a small detail that was overlooked, that the program was acting as though it was playing, and trying to burn at the same time which was what I wasn't expecting.  Though my comments were aggresive, I would like to say that it takes talent to write a program like this, however, a one-on-one tech support would be great, even at a small rate of fee for chat, for a quicker more detailed response.

Again, thanks for the advice, and keep up the good work.
