Couldn't Create Web Remote Listener
« on: May 21, 2005, 10:33:24 pm »

I installed the latest versions of MC 11, and have been having problems. On startup, the program brings up the error message "Couldn't Create Web Remote Listener." It then brings up a second message, "Failed to start remote server." The program then seems to load if I simply click on OK in the error dialogue boxes.

I then notice that the TIVO server is showing as started as indicated by these items associated:
05/21/05 23:07:46 - Starting...
05/21/05 23:07:46 - Trying Port 8070
05/21/05 23:07:46 - Adding server to TiVo beacon
05/21/05 23:07:46 - Running on Port 8070

However, I cannot get the program to work with TIVO. The TIVO desktop server works fine when I check the TIVO menu on my TV, and I can play music or photos with no problem. However, the Media Center server does not work. It shows up as an option for both music and photos on the TIVO menu. However, when I try to play music I get the error message, "An unexpected error occured while accessing the server.... (Error # 3-5-6)."

If I then try to start the photos section, I get the error message, "An unexpected error occured while accessing the server.... (Error # 5-6)."

Even after that, I can go back and play music or photos using the TIVO server.

Any suggestions?

Normally the "couldn't create" message means that either something else is using that port, or that you have a crashed instance that isn't totaly gone. Another option is a firewall. I would suggest that you tried to change the ports first.

I have rebooted the system several times and then started Media Center, but I get those "Couldn't create webremote listener every time. I also changed ports several times. Media Center seems to indicate that everything is fine:
05/22/05 09:14:07 - Starting...
05/22/05 09:14:07 - Adding server to TiVo beacon
05/22/05 09:14:07 - Running on Port 8072
05/22/05 09:18:04 - Removing server from TiVo Beacon
05/22/05 09:18:04 - Server Stopped
05/22/05 09:18:04 - Starting...
05/22/05 09:18:04 - Adding server to TiVo beacon
05/22/05 09:18:04 - Running on Port 8088

However, when I go to the TV, I get the same problem each time. The Media Center shows up as does the TIVO desktop. I have no problem playing music and photos using TIVO's server, and I have files on two computers and they are both showing with no problem. However, when I go to play music through the Media Center server, I get the error #3-5-6. Does anyone know what that error means?
