 My Win98SE computer is my media server ... butt all too often I find it out-to-lunch, and needing a hard re-boot.  I cannot pin the problem on anything specific (i.e., no error message), but it correlates 100% with the media server running (and not necessarily connected to anything).  That is, if the media server is not running I have absolutely no problems with this computer.

 (BTW ... tell me it's the OS if you wish, but I happen to need this Win98 computer because HP dropped driver support for a very capable printer ... the 720 ... I digress ...)

try:

1. reBooting
2. turning off all programs
3. Turn Off All Programs Running In The Notify Window (Lower Right). Like Chat Programs etc....

you must have somthing running or windows 98 would not use all that memory.
