Mouse Question - new Logitech MediaPlay mouse
« on: May 01, 2005, 10:44:39 pm »

I had to get a new mouse today, so I bought a Logitech MediaPlay mouse.  It has play, next, prev and volume buttons on the mouse.  Looks nice, but I don't think there is a way to make it control MC.  Is there?

If I could assign mjextman commands to the transport buttons, life would be good, but if that can be done, I can't see where to do it.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of thing, to let me know if can even be done.

Thanks.

I got an answer from Richard Owens on the Logitech user forum, and I've got it working.  I can now assign any program to run from any of the new transport mouse buttons!  How did we ever get any help before the Internet?

If anyone is interested, I can post the procedure, once I get it all nailed down, but it's really simple, once I install his updated xml and png files.

I have to have the mouse call .bat files, since it won't run commands with options, but now I get a dos window popping up whenver I use the new mouse features.  I know a dos window can be run HIDDEN, but I don't know how to do it, anyone ?

I would just use a Windows Script (using a WScript.Shell object) instead of a BAT file.  You won't see the ugly DOS window then.  If you don't know how to call a shell command from a Window Script, you want to search for "WScript.Shell" on Google.  If you can't figure it out, post back here and I'll post one of my control scripts that I use at home for this purpose when I get home tonight (it won't be for quite a while though).

However, this is one more example of MC not behaving like a regular Multimedia Player application.  It really should be able to listen to the regular Windows Messages that the Logitech software puts out, as when you reconfigure the buttons in this way it breaks their functionality in all other multimedia applications.

I am considering a new mouse, and I would like to see one of your scripts Glynor. I take it I'll need to use my old receiver (LX700), or will the MediaPlay mouse connect through the LX700 Setpoint receiver? I'll hit the forums over at Logitech.
