renaming files after ripping?
« on: October 08, 2002, 01:26:22 am »

Hi forumsters,
I had occassion to rip abou 12 CD's without net access, I only typed in album and artist on the ripping page not the track titles, I have since downloaded the track titles is there a way I can transfer the titles to the ripped files?? ie. rename my ape files.
Thanks in advance

I've heard that there is programs that can rename the file based on tag info (I think MJ can do this). All said & done though I think you'll have to edit them manually. Probably the best way is to open a explorer window, go to your music directory, find your files, and start editing. It shouldn't take that long if you use copy & paste operations.

I am not sure what your asking.

But If your saying that all tags are on the files and you wish to rename the files to what the tags say, then the answer is yes.

I am no longer running MJ8 but if you mark the file you wish to rename.

right click, select properties, then go to tools there is a option in there to select rules for renaming the files.

the rules in there can be selected or changed in order by the user i currently use when renaming

[ARTIST] - [ALBUM] - [TRACK #] - [NAME]

I also use this when riping and this can be set in options, "File Naming And Location"

if you need more info let me know

Hi Kingsparta
As I did not have net access at the original rip time the Harddrive files are named track 1.....ect Later I have  net access I put in the CD and get the correct track names, Now I would like to find a handy way to transfer the track names to the hard drive files given that I have about 200 tracks to do
Cheers Gerry

Tangodude

Did you read the message above?

if you have the tags correct you can use the rename fuction and rename the music file to what the tags are in your files.
