Multiple zones on single multi channel sound card?
« on: June 26, 2005, 02:04:15 am »

I searched the forum and didn't see this specific question asked before, so here goes:

I'm wondering, is there any support in MC (or is it even possible) to use a multi-channel capable soundcard (ie, one that supports 6 channel audio) as 3 2-channel zones?

Thanks for any info,

Tim

Some, not all. You can use it with Audigy and Live! 1.5 cards with the kX Driver package. And I believe (but I haven't tried) that it also works with higher end multi channel sound cards.

I'm using with a M-Audio Delta 410 and that works fine. One issue with multi-zone that took me a bit ofnhead scratching to figure out; you can only play MC natively supported audio to zones - audo requiring third-party playback (aa. with quicktime for example) can only play out to a single zone.

I'm using a VIA EPIA-M1000 http://www.viavpsd.com/product/epia_m_spec.jsp?motherboardId=81 which has integrated audio via the VT1616 6 channel AC'97 Codec.  It looks like the kx driver project supports only the EMU10k1 and EMU10k2

Looks like this is merely a driver issue

Thanks for the info!

Driver and driver... The built in sound-cards are either AC97 or C-Media, sometimes with a "hidef" added to the name, and none of them work, not even as standalone cards.
