JRiver's "To Do List?"
« on: June 29, 2005, 11:52:43 am »

I am a huge fan of Media Center and have recruited many friends to pay for MC 9 and upgrades to 10 and 11 because of the functionality and great support.

My question is about the "to do list" that keeps being mentioned - as in:

Q: "When is JRiver going to bring back Album Artist for the iPod?"
A: "It's on the to do list"

Q: When is JRiver going to fully support the iPod photo?"
A: "It's on the to do list"

(Obviously, these two features are of particular interest to me - the former more than the latter.)

The Album Artist question has been on the "to do list" for about a year and a half (I think it returned briefly for the very first release of MC 11 - but then disappeared again), and the iPod photo support since December 2004. In the meantime, I've paid for MC and upgraded twice since MC 9, with anticipation that Album Artist is coming back (having been assured it is on the "to do list").

Can JRiver give some sort of real timetable for implementation - or not - of these features? I realize that there are a lot of support issues that JRiver needs to attend to, and I am not suggesting that there is any intent to string subscribers along. Maybe  these features will never be supported - which is fine - but subscribers may not want to keep paying to upgrade (or recruit others) if certain features/support aren't really returning or being developed.

These should happen in MC 12. Album Artist will happen first.

Do you have Rough timescales for MC12?

I think packyb makes a good point about how new users decide whether to invest in the product.  I just purchased MC11 in anticipation of these features being implemented so does that mean I'll have to pay again for MC12 to get them?

Thanks for responding Steve, but I'm still confused. You said that "these should happen in MC 12" - although they may not?

Seems like a variation of "it's on the to do list." No? ?

Our projects are dynamic so I cannot guarantee what will happen. It is likely this will be in 12.

Steve,

Is it also 'likely' that dynamic smartlists will find their way into 12?  Also, do you have any indication when the first 12 alphas will appear (e.g. weeks away, months away, next yeary)?

It's only because we're all loving what you've done so far that we are hungry for MORE  ;D

Mark,

Those questions are more murky. I don't know. Not trying to be secretive, I just don't know.

Thanks Steve - appreciate your honesty.

Especially regarding the dynamic playlists, would appreciate any update, if and when you do know....
