In other programs I can use a find and replace expression to move data around.

I have all my Artists listed by "Last Name, First Name" and have found that has caused some problems.  I want a search expression that will find:

(any characters up to, but not including, the comma: naming these expression 1), (and find all characters after ", " naming these expr 2).

And then will replace
"Expression 2" "Expression 1"

In MS Word this would just be Find: (*), (*)   Replacing with /2 /1

So again (in case i've complicated it!), I just want to grab the last name (from the start of the field up to the comma), and then grab the first name (everything following comma-space to the end of the field) and swap their order with a single space inbetween (no comma).

Have you tried using King's OTR Tagger 2 plugin? you can find it at http://www.spartasoft.com/

I don't think any wildcard characters are possible in Find and Replace. I hope that King's plug-in can help.


Otherwise it might be possible by using the filename as a middleman:

1. Tool: Rename Files From Properties. Use the Artist field as a part of the filename.

2. Tool: Fill Properties From Filenames. Use "comma + space" as a separator for splitting the artist info into two separate custom fields.

3. Tool: Rename Files From Properties. Use these two fields in the correct order and a space as a separator.

4. Tool: Fill Properties From Filenames. Use a rule that fills the Artist field correctly.

5. Tool: Rename Files From Properties. Give the files proper names again.

You could collect the files to a playlist, export the playlist in MPL format, edit the MPL playlist with MS Word, delete the files from the library and import the MPL playlist. After that you need to update the file tags from the library.


In any case remember to make a library backup first.

I also used spartas replace master, which worked great!l  KingSparta, is there a way I could get the zip file for replace master since it is not installed when I upgraded MC11 and I have found it very useful

But there is a new version Of OTR tagger BTW I Put on this morning to fix a few bugs i found after running thru 3,000+ files

I Hope OTR Tagger is usefull to you, i know it is for me.

I have received over 80,000 OTR mp3's from a collector who recently died, he left it to me in his will and got it last week.

No, but I am thinking about doing somethings to a new version of it that MC does not do Like Cut From The Beginning or end, and Apending to the front and rear when copying\moving fields.
