disabling MJ starts with CD insert
« on: October 06, 2002, 06:27:53 am »

I do not want MJ to start when I insert a music CD (because it's a nag while ripping with EAC).  I have disabled MJ's association with the CD, but it still starts up ... what did I miss?

I'm not sure what the answer is, but if you post your system info here (from MJ's help menu) I'm sure someone can help on Monday. Each windows system is different in the way "autorun" works.
I assume you have unchecked "Associate with audio CD's" in the file associations settings dialog in MJ.

I had the same problem and I fixed it with TweakUI. In the 'Paranoia' tab uncheck the 'play audio cds automatically' option.

(TweakUI is an additional control panel available free from Microsoft - it allows you to get rid of lots of annoying little windows things, like desktop icons you don't use etc. If you don't have it, get it!)

I think the problem is that when you install MJ, it associates itself with all kinds of things including CD audio. When you insert a disc, Windows (not MJ) goes to open it, but of course it uses MJ to do so.

TweakUI may not be the only way to disable autoplay, but it does work.

TeakUI is only an interface for several registry keys ... let me know which one(s) to change.

You can always hold the Shift key down after inserting a CD. This temporarily disables A.I.N. and should keep MJ from opening.
