So, I just bought a new computer. Really, I bought a new motherboard, CPU, memory, hard drive, case, DVD writer.

Anyway, I left my Audigy 2 in the old system.
I'm running the Intel audio (Azalia) 7.1 chip on the motherboard.
To me it sounds great so far. And that is the prime requirement, isn't it?

But, does anyone know of some drawback to this sound device?

As I hear it, the chip specs equal or exceed the Audigy 2.  Either 24 or 32X192.  The questiion is the CPU burden and the signal path. Intel claims that with hyperthreading, latest chipset, etc ,etc, that there won't be any sys interupts, but your results may vary.  Don't forget the Mboard is going to be noisier.  I would not expect you to enjoy a SNR anywhere near the >114 db claimed by CREAF's latest ($400) cards, but the board audio is free.  And a BIG improvement over AC 97.  So let your ears be the judge.

Thanks, I think that the sound is great. The chipset is fine, it is only available on higher-end chipsets right now.

And, as for resource usage, I have not noticed anything untoward.

At this point, with only a few hours of listening, I like it better than the Audigy 2 it replaces.

Soon it will be an excuse to go get more speakers!
