Organize by Artist Name (First Letter)?
« on: September 20, 2005, 10:34:54 am »

I think I'm having a lapse in thought.  I have a huge directory of files that I want to organize by [Artist], but I first want to put them into directories according to First Letter  --
All ACE OF BASE in directory "{A}", and BUSH in "{B}" and so on ....

How?

(Reasoning:  If I just organize by [Artist]/[Album], I get 48,000 ARTISTS in the base directory)

I would first add a view scheme using this view item: Album Artist (auto), grouping, size 1.

After that it would be relatively easy task to select the files under each alphabet and change the base paths with the Find and Replace tool.

That's the only way I could come up with off the top of my head.  Manually.  But, would there be a way to use the new Custom Field logic to create a new field that was JUST the first letter of the [Artist] field?
