Come work in a rathole
« on: December 23, 2005, 09:59:15 am »

Hello and goodbye to all,

13 years ago I had just moved to the twin cities with my then new wife. I did not have a place to live or a job. We were young and naive and in hindsight pretty stupid to make such a leap.  I was (and am) a professional tuba player and was looking for an apartment where I could practice. The one place that did not take issue with me was one in which the landlord was a musician in the Duluth Symphony. We rented the place and subsequently he notified me that the one tuba position in the orchestra which had been filled for 16 years was coming available. I auditioned and won the position. In the meantime, I needed some work and answered an  ad to 'Come work in a rathole'. Thus began my work with JRiver.

I am departing now to go to school fulltime at Luther Seminary and to work part time as the coordinator of 'Daily Work' which is a program dedicated to placing unemployed and underemployed people in living wage employment. Change is scary and exciting and this move is no exception. The departure from JRiver is amicable and I wish this place only the best as it moves into the adventure of the new year.

I will look back on my time at JRiver with fond memories of the people that I have had the chance to know. I am grateful for those memories as I have been shaped as a person as a result of those relationships. JRiver has been a good 'rathole' to hang my hat for many years and I wish all who are connected with it as employers, employees and customers the best in the coming years.

Best wishes to all.

Steve,
I have switched jobs multiple times. In fact I have worked for Medtronic also, which has the HQ in the Twin Cities. I have been there many times.
Anyway, it is scary but in the end it helps building anybody as a person.

It is good to hear that you join the large community of customers and forum-junkies of JRiver.

From the Netherlands I wish you al the best and a merry christmas!!!

Steve,

I wish you the best of luck at seminary and in your new position.  It takes a lot of courage to make such a drastic change in life.

From someone who checks the forum everyday to read your posts, I have to say that you will be sorely missed.

Steve--
You helped me hook my ipod up, thanks to your patient answers to my life-and-death questions about peripherals.  Thank you.

I can picture you now, marching off to new adventures, tooting on the Sousaphone.

Steve,
That's quite jump. I'm sure it will be a success for you, and I'm sure you will do well.
Thanks for all the great work you have done for JRiver (and thus the users).
Merry Christmas/Happy Holiday (as you say in the political correct US) from Denmark.

Steve, best of everything to you in your new position.

Sounds like you listened to Yogi Berra when he said,
"When you get to a fork in the road...take it"   ;D

I feel badly for all those portable players whose Daddy is going away.  :-[

Steve,
Best of luck in your new direction.
Thank you for your hard work and dedication making MC the best iPod management software. You'll leave some big shoes to fill.
