MP4 / AVI Streaming
« on: October 17, 2005, 04:12:45 pm »

After  I have now manged to get MP4 files into MC11 and play them successfully on my Server PC (altough I still need to rename the files to AVI to get them into MC11 for some odd reason...), I would liek to do the same streaming them to my Client in the living room.

This works when I use ZoomPlayer, indicateing that all the relevant codecs are installed on that PC.  Files start to play after a couple of seconds of gathering the relevant fiel information through the network.

However, doing the same thrugh MC11I cannot get to work. Once I press play, it shows the coverart and the dialog "Connecting....." but then i wait and wait and simply nothing happens.

Any ideas ??

Many thanks!!

Are you sure MC can use the same codecs? Did you try to play the file locally?

If you are using the Library Server I would suggest using a network share instead. The Library Server is not optimal for big video files. In many cases a client MC must download the complete video file before the playback can start.

Thanks Alex,

as I said, I plaid the file locally (on the server) and also attaching a harddrive with it to the Client and that works fine.

Maybe it is indeed MediaServer causing the problem. But if this is to serve "media" and not just audio or picture, it should also support video, should it not??

I meant "on the client".

I guess this is somehow tied with the file format and codecs used. The server can stream only some formats. The other formats should play after you have waited long enough.

I don't think the behavior has changed after these threads:

Oh well, that would indeed be disappointing. How comes MC11 tries to stream the whole 1.5Gig file at once ?

Doesnt do that with audio either!

J River guys, is this something that can be looked at.

Even, better, as I contiue to be a fan of ZoomPlayer, is there a way to integrate this into MC11 via Plugin. Its only a pretty small exe file so should not be a problem.

That would truly be great as ZoomPlayer offers all the wonderful things one needs in video playback (OSD's, Chapter support etc etc.)

Many thanks once again for having a look at this

I have my big video files on my HTPC so I don't usually need to stream them. However, because I use this system I can easily change from the client mode to using a local library, which is identical with the server library.

I have no problems with making a few extra clicks on the other PCs. Since the video files are long that is not a major drawback. Usually before wathing a movie there are other things that need to be adressed too: display, HT receiver, snacks and beverages, etc.
