Can .PNG photos be tagged?
« on: August 02, 2005, 11:11:51 am »

Hello all,

I'm considering using PNG instead of JPG as it is lossless yet still compresses compared to .TIF.

(I'm in the process of scanning 20 years of negatives... probably about 20,000 images....). As I don't want to go thru the same process I did when I re-ripped all my CDs to APE, I'm going to go lossless from the start...)

I've consulted MC's help and the PNG web site but I cannot find information regarding if PNG files can be tagged like JPG files. Does MC support saving tags inside PNG files?

Thanks.

Michel.

MC can't tag PNG files (at least not in any way that I'm aware of)...

If there is a way to do this I'd be interested as well. Any thoughts?

Any news as to whether .PNG tagging would/could make it into MC 11.1?

Thanks.

Michel.

It is possible. Here are the official specs: http://www.w3.org/TR/PNG/#11textinfo.
I suppose adding similar support that jpg files have would not be a big task.

EXIF support for camera files would be nice too.
