MC 11 problems with .jpg/.jpeg and VIA EPIA M6000?
« on: October 12, 2005, 05:29:10 am »

 ?

Hi guys, I have a nasty one...

I have an EPIA M6000 (Eden CPU) that I want to use as a music player - with MC 11.

The only app. I want on it is MC 11.

I have used MC for ages in various version on a number of PC's (incl. this EPIA - MC 9 and 10 I think).  I've been running MC 11 on a PIII 650 and now want to use the EPIA insted.

So, the problem is ......

MC 11 disp[lays all jpeg/hpg's as black. No pictures, just black.  The images are there and are things like album covers, pic's of my family etc.  These display perfectly well in other app's on the EPIA, (ie. paint, IE etc)...just not in MC11 (latest version).

To make this wordse, it will display PNG and BMP just fine!  ARGHHH!!!

So, what have I done to try and remedy this...oh, only spent the last 9 hours reinstalling XP and various drivers and app's a number of times all with the same result!!!...and now I appeal to this forum for help!

What do i need to give you guys to help me debug this one?

One bit of information is that when I install MC, all but one of the skins (where it asks what skin to use in the install) is also black...

I can post pic's if that'll help...

Thanks.

ok, here are some pic's....

I thought it might be directx or display drivers so I also reloaded those, but no good.  Movies and bmp's show up fine, just not jpegs!!!

Jpegs show ok in other programs like MS Picture Viewer or ACDSee v6.

HELLLPPPP!!!!!

Works ok in other viewers.....

Fails in MC11!!!

Thanks.

Please copy your system info from MC11 and paste it here.

Looks like you're in My Computer in MC.  What happens if you import  a directory from the device.  Do you then see it in MC under Images?

It also looks like you're missing the thumbnails, not the images themselves.  What happens if you double click on one?

Are your file extensions .jpeg or .jpg?

MC has an option to rebuild thumbnails.

Jim, thanks for the reply.  System info at the bottom of the post.....just re-ghosting and trying a few other things...thank god for Ghost :)

Also, D/L v10 trial to see if that works.  Nope...same problem with 10 (base release)!

As for the questions....

"Looks like you're in My Computer in MC.  What happens if you import  a directory from the device.  Do you then see it in MC under Images?"
Have not tried to open directly from say my camera....but import from folders gives same black.

It also looks like you're missing the thumbnails, not the images themselves.  What happens if you double click on one?
The image is black in all views, thumbnail, theater, full screen, Image view, Edit, even copies and pastes out of MC into say MS paint show a black image :(

Are your file extensions .jpeg or .jpg?

.jpg

MC has an option to rebuild thumbnails.

Yeah, I initially thought this was the problem as I orig. imported my library from my other PC, (a PIII)...and I tried all of the options, obscure and otherwise to remove and rebuild the thumbnails and eventually did a fresh install of MC11 and then XP and just looked at (and/or imported) one or 2 files (ie. not restore from lib. backup) all with same results.

Thanks for the help.

Odd one this...may have something to do with the way MC paints the images....as I said, other image types work fine.

Have you checked google for similar problems with VIA?

I could find nothing on Google, and I've just checked the via arena forums and there is nothing obvious. I use the Via C3 PC as a headless server, so I've been able to live with this for a while now, but it is a bit of a nuisance when something goes wrong with the cover art and I can't see which image is actually associated with a track.
