Multiple CD drive ripping problem
« on: December 06, 2005, 07:32:31 pm »

Ripping from multiple drives is still very much messed up. It will start to rip from more than one drive, then after a few tracks, drops back to ripping from single drive. Often not finishing the total number of tracks of the single drive it dropped back to.

Appears to work fine when ripping using one drive.

I have just ripped from 2 drives without problems.

Each CD had 18 tracks and I ripped to WMA lossless.

Rpalmer, what do you have setup in the "concurrent options"? Is it ripping from both drives at the same time? Trust me - it's not working.

Can't reproduce this yet. Using two drives, I just ripped 6 CD's with two ripping/encoding concurrently and swapping CD's when they completed. I'm using "normal" copy mode and encoding to wma.
Can you post your system info here. Also, either a screen shot or list all the settings on the advanced ripping page. Also the file encoding details you are using. Also, list the copy mode for both drives (normal or secure).

Thanks.

Thanks for looking at this.

Encoding - Monkey APE, Normal compression.
Ripping: Copy mode: Normal
              Read speed: Max
              Rip to single file: NO
              Overwrite existing: YES
              Auto Create log: NO
              Encode on fly: NO
              Max concurrent rip: 3
              Max concurrent encode: 4
              Max concurrent processes: 5

System details:
             Pentium 3.2ghz, 2gig memory
             Raid5 - SATA 900gigs total (4 drives)
             XP with SP2 loaded.
             3 CD drives

Also tried using only two drives with the same inconsistent results. And tried Auto-Rip on and off. CD drive in windows set to "Take no action" when CD is inserted. (no auto play or play using MediaCenter)

The biggest difference between your setup and mine is the "Encode on the fly" setting. Maybe we could quickly narrow down the problem if you would try setting this to "YES" and testing again. Meanwhile, I'll try setting it to "NO" and do more testing.

Thanks I'll try that tonight when I get back home. I seem to recall disabling the encode on the fly because it was causing other problems. Can't remember the details though.

MC is a great product. I've got over 700 CD's to migrate to MC. Sure would hate to have to do them one at a time. ;)

I also have Encode on the fly set, with 2 concurrent rippping processes (only have 2 drives).

I can reproduce the problem using "encode on the fly" set to NO. I should be able to get this fixed soon. Go ahead and test tonight with it set to YES and let us know the results.

Thanks.

Just verified it - setting the "encode on the fly" option to YES allows multiple CD's to rip properly.
Thanks!
