MP3 files play skippy with 11.0.316
« on: November 30, 2005, 06:29:15 am »

I use Helix Encoder for creation of MP3-Files with variable bitrate settings.

Some of these files have a smaller bitrate compared to others and they play skippy in JRiver!!
I tested the same files in Winamp and FFDShow audio decoder and they play OK.

So it might be related to MC MP3 decoder??

I uploaded a sample that plays skippy on my system using Media Center, please check it..

Thanks a lot in advance

Thanks for the file.  The next build of MC 11.1 (probably out today) will fix this.

In the history:
Fixed: Media Center MP3 playback no longer hiccups when playing spliced / or slightly invalid MP3 files that have rewind overflows.

Thanks again.

Thanks for fixing that. As you mention "invalid files", can you tell me what's wrong with the files so the team behind the encoder can fix it??

I would really like to get that fixed on the encoder site.

If you can give me a good description, I will post it here:

Thanks again

MP3 files play skippy with 11.1.79 beta
« Reply #3 on: December 13, 2005, 06:44:23 pm »

I found another problematic file created with Helix encoder, using already latest MC 11.1 beta.

This time the file playes also buggy on some of my hardware devices.
Since you were able to identify the problem last time: Could you please look at this second file and tell the encoder development team what is wrong with their encoder?? because fixing only your decoder leaves me with my hardware devices not working properly, so i guess fixing the Encoder instead is the way to go!

Please help us here:

Thanks a lot in advance

The new broken sample files can  be downloaded from hydrogenaudio forum.

People in that forum think that the error is related to your decoder again. Matt stated that the files are slightly invalid. Could you tell at hydrogenaudio forum what is wrong with the files??

Thanks

Thanks Pug, this should be fixed next build.

This is one of those grey areas between what a standard says and what most decoders do.  We'll stay out of that debate, and just try to support as much as possible.

Best,

Thanks Matt for updating Media Center again.

I understand that you want to stay out of debate since the development of MC is a time-consuming full-time-job, I guess.

BUT, the problem is that some of my standalone players have the same problem and they won't get an update on that I think.

Since you seem to know what causes the problem, could you just tell it me here or post it in the hydrogenaudio forum (WITHOUT debate), perhaps one of helix encoder dev team could need the info to create some kind of compatibility mode for the encoder.

I know that this is of no use for you or the development of MC, but it would be very kind of you  :)

Thanks again for all your efforts to let MC stay at the throne of media players!
