converting .mp3's to monkey's audio
« on: September 28, 2002, 07:00:50 pm »

i am seriously considering converting my huge mp3 collection to APE files but i have questions:

a) if i straght convert from mp3 to ape with mj will it be the same audio quality as if i had ripped directly from cd?
a1) should i use something else to convert?
b) will i lose my id3v2 tags?
c) will i lose my replay gain settings?
d) will they be much larger than my mp3s?  this is a concern because i have roughly 6800 mp3s?
e) can nero burn audio-cds from ape files?
f) and most importantly is it worth the time and effort?

the sage advice of other media jukebox users would be most appreciated...

Thanks in advance!

there is no point in converting mp3's to APE.  you have already compressed the audio and lost data.  the new apes will be much larger but have the same quality as the mp3's.  there is no way to recover the original, uncompressed audio unless you rip from cd again.

What Daven Said Is Correct, It Is Best To Re-Rip Them From CD.
