Dear Santa Matt
« on: December 18, 2005, 08:09:31 pm »

I've been a good boy this year and I have a single wish for Christmas.

I wish for APL files to be able to work with any type of audio file, not just APE.
Santa Matt, I think this would be even better than CUE files for those who wish to make compilations, etc.

Thank you, I'll leave the usual plate of cookies on the counter and pizza in the oven.

Sorry to hijack thread but I have to say Mastiff, your home cinema system is deep into the funky department!

I may be the wrong guy to ask.  I sort of regret making APL.

Good rippers (like MC) maintain perfect track boundaries so there isn't a really great reason to rip as one large file if you use lossless.

However, other people have also asked for this so it'd be a good thing to do.  I'm afraid it'll have to wait for 12.0 though.

You know though, APL is the one thing that sold me on APE as a format. More than compression ratios, etc.

I'm old fashioned, though disk space is cheap, I have 1987 habits, I save every byte I can. And with so many artists, I have the individual albums, then one or two "Greatest Hits" and over all, I save quite a bit of space using APLs to index into one file and make single APEs for the few that aren't on this or that album.

Plus, it's just cool. People always see a 1k file and wonder how all that music gets compressed that small. For some I tell, for others it's best left as a miracle.

Hmmm, didn't realize it would be that involved, or I would have just waited until 12 is closer.
Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

Thanks! Actually it's a bit better now, with retubed projector and a few other mods, and with a few changes in the room making it cleaner and straighter, so there's less stuff that steals away focus from the image. :)
