removing track numbering
« on: December 20, 2005, 02:59:39 pm »

A lot of my tracks have a name like "02 - Song". How can I remove the "02 - " part, and put the tracknumber automatically in the field track# ?

that does tend to be a problem.

It would be nice if MC had a option in copy fields and replace to copy parts of the field like

CopyField Mid(Name,1,2) To FieldName Track # And With Apend Options To The Front Of A Field Or Rear

And Maybe A MoveField Mid(Name,1,2)

Currently the Only Thing You Can Do Is Sort By The Track # then Change The Track Numbers By Selecting All The Files With The Same Track # And then Editing It, At That Point All Will Change.

Then Go Back And Use Replace Option On Only the "Name" Field Use Replace "02 - " With ""

Also A Option Like Trim(Mid(Name,1,5)) Would Have Removed The First 5 Chrs From The Name Field.

What I've done in a situations like that, if you have space make a back up of everything first,
Then rename the files with the track name (characters permitting), using the Rename files from properties tool.
Then you can use the fill properties from filename tool to extract useful bits
and put them in the properties,
and then finally when you're finished you rename
the files back based on your prefered naming scheme.

Of course the track names have to be all pretty much the same to make it worth while.
